Filmfare Power List is out! And Latadidi retains her fifth position this year too in the music makers section. Kudos to the lady to still be amongst the top five- that too, with virtually no musical album release last year! Whoa! That is surely an achievement. Many congratulations!

One wonders: is it just the artist or do the music directors, lyricists, or even the actors who enacted them play a part in the popularity or even the total manifestation of the true talent of an individual singer. This is of course not to take anything away from the great Lataji! Any thoughts, Deepak?

Sudipta - Well, i think it will be a sum total of everyone’s contribution. That is true for any artiste… Amitabh Bachhan became the legend due to the support of directors like Prakash mehra, Man Desai, Yash Chopra… SRK ’s popularity is often attributed to Johar-Chopra camps, etc. Plus of course, a bit of luck too. But the fact is how much resilient and talented the artiste is to make the best of the opportunities and then shine through them. So, i feel that even if Zanjeer hadnt happened, AB wud hv hd some other vehicle to zoom his career to the zenith. After all he followed it up brilliantly with other directos. Same for Latadi too - if Barsaat/Mahal/Andaz hadnt happened in 1949, there wud hv been some other films. The fact that both AB and LM (two superstar icons of our country) strode like a collosus over varying eras and techicians (directors/music composers) makes them great! Its their ability to mould themselves to the requirements of various other talents is their strong point. I hope i m making sense

Just saw her photos on www.smashits.com and doesn’t she have a million
dollar smile. Both sisters Lata and Asha have kept slim. And always are
energetic inspite of being 70 plus. Lataji may soon receive the French Legion Honour. Lataji will always remain in the power list as long as God smiles upon her. And she has God’s blessings as well as her millions of fans around the world.

may god wish her with every thing.now a days it has become a fashion to comment lataji in a bad manner but she proves herself again and again. recently ir ead an article in net and i was disappointed.but news like this make me happy and joyous. ofcourse lataji deserves anything and everything related to music.

And i agree, it is really heartbreaking to see all those negative things written about her. I feel so angry at such arm chair critics. The amt of good work that she has done is so immense, that how can anyone think of belittling her! It only shows their mental paucity!
