Hail Storm!

The weather took a sudden u-turn on Sunday and unexpected showers hit the entire North India. The lightening showed more presence than Agra’s electricity board. And the cacophonous thunder kept people awake alongwith the mosquitoes.

On Monday, in the midst of a function, while our Vice President delivered an essentially dull business presentation, the proceedings were suddenly livened up with reverberating background sounds, drowning the VP’s voice. It was a hailstorm. Hail, the size of overgrown potatoes, lashed Agra - and destroyed the potato crop!

A passer-by took refuge in the hall where we were having the function, hit by the furious hail. An aquaintance’s car’s window cracked under the weight (I scurried to the window to see if my own battered Santro could bear the onslaught - mercifully, it did!).

That night as well, the rain gods poured their hearts out, after every short interval. And while the rain gods worked overtime, the electricity proceeded on a long leave. Climbing five floors, after a few drinks, at 2 in the night, in pitch blackness, with just a dim light of the mobile phone that would go off every few seconds, and a load of laptop on my shoulders, is a feat that I wouldn’t really like to repeat very soon!

Due to the rain, the temperatures went down, and up came the sweaters. They say it’s due to ‘global warming’ - but strangely it left me shivering!

So it was raining there with hailstones.

Here also we can’t trust the weather of KTM. You know that but for the last one weeks it’s really strange. In the morning the sun shines perfectly bright and warm and in the afternoon it starts to rain. and Next day it’s raining and afternoon it’s sun there. You know what yesterday afternoon it was sun but raining too :) . I remember my childhood and sang the song “Gham-paani gham-paani syaal ko bihe kukur janti biralo baahun” I hope you understood this line :) .

And here we have to carry a sweater and an umbrella always.

As Mehak said, you are become quite active to post a post almost every alternative day… it’s because of the “the load of laptop on your shoulders” :D

  7. Deepak Jeswal Says:

Mehak - There hasnt been any conscious effort to keep the posts light and frothy, perhaps its a reflection of my overall current state - chilled out! :)

Juneli - Ktm weather was always mercurial, and thats what i liked the best about it - the unpredictibility! But here it wasnt expected. In fact, we were all well into the summers, the car a.c. was on, the sweaters packed off, the razais folded….and out of the blue, thunder struck - quite literally too!

  8. Deepak Jeswal Says:

Anks - Dunno kaise aaya - prob. it is the global warming effect; or prob. Indra Dev got bored with watching apsaras dancing so he thought of playing some joke on North India ( yeah, the hailstorm hit the entire belt from Kashmir to the plains). But whatever, it really wrecked havoc on the crops!

  10. Deepak Jeswal Says:
