Shifting!

Shifting back is a tedious process. While coming here things were easy. Initially, there were a series of India-visits and I got all the stuff I required slowly and steadily. Plus, over the months I purchased other useful items here. But going back, means packing them all up in one single go. Thankfully, since the decision was taken I had taken few stuff back last time. However, I realise now that the ‘few’ stuff was precisely that only - few! A large bulk remained, and I am at my wits ends getting them all packed or disposing them off.

Employing a packing agency is almost impossible at this short a notice. In any case, I don’t have that many things which would justify employing one. One more issue is that though the agitation has ceased, there is still a districts-wide blockade by Maoists, so I can never be sure when my goods will reach if I send them through road using a packing agent.

Worse, the nineteen-days agitation/curfews meant that I couldn’t move around to complete pending jobs. Some of them were crucial, and involved monetary refunds - mobile connection , internet connection, gas etc. It all opened up yesterday, and I am buried under an avalanche of things to complete. To add to the troubles, the lap-top will also go very shortly, and I am struggling to get personal files out from there, which include a mammoth 2 GB worth of songs, some of them rare Lata Mangeshkar numbers. Woefully, the CD drive has gone for a toss and I can’t store them on discs. I have to find ways of taking them out, and fast at that! Any good suggestion is most welcome!

If that wasn’t enough, then I suddenly got a call from my organisation to return two days earlier, which catapulted the entire process into a dizzying orbit of confusion.

Today’s horoscope in The Himalayan Times seems uncannily true:

A whirlwind surrounds you. You find that plans change. A new friend could appear on the scene. You could be delighted by what a simple call draws. Socialize, reach out for others. Tonight: Meet a friend!

I don’t know about the last part, since the day has yet to unfold completely. But the first two sentences are bang on. Hell, why didn’t I pay attention to these horoscopes earlier!

Anyways, I shall take leave now. For those visiting from previous Random Expressions, warm welcome; for new readers, welcome aboard! This is not a formal launch as yet. That I will do only when I am back in India.

Invest in a memory stick DJ…. they are easy to find (at least in India) and not very expensive…. or butter up the IT guys in offoce to take the back up for you!

  2. Vicky Says:

    kya baat hai…..
    really cool space….
new look….looking fwd to new posts here….

    as for the “memory” problems..
my advice would be…..go for a “external” laptop 80gb hard drive.
it will cost u around 4-5k.
its pretty small, comes with a case and easy to carry anywhere.
a 1GB memory stick will also cost u around 3k…so maybe the hard-drive might be a better option.
it works just like a memory stick..and u can plug it into any computer and use it…

  3. anks Says:

@ vicky, 4-5k? kya baat karte ho? last me frend bought a 30g drive for 8k, that too after a discount!

  4. invincible Says:

External USB harddisk is the best option. If u can find a USB-laptop harddisk, then nothing like it. Else buy an internal hard-disk with a hard-disk casing. This casing wud have a USB to plug into ur lappy’s slot.
Welcome to ‘I miss my thinkpad’ club. I too had to hand over my tp back after change of project.

Good luck DJ and nice site this !!

  5. Zoya Says:

:( me not in ur frnds list *crying uncontrollably* “boooooo hooooo”

  6. Vicky Says:

    yes anks…
    its 4-5k….

recently my friend bought one from IBM for around 4-5k…
and invinci is right…either get a usb hard drive…or get an internal hard drive with a usb cord….works fine..
and laptop hard drives r comparatively much smaller than normal hard drives…

  7. Navjot Says:

    Hi,
USB based portable hard disks is the best option.
If you can, then get it from Nehru Place, Delhi. You’ll get it at dirt cheap prices.

  8. Deepak Jeswal Says:

ANKS Welcome here … yep that’s the option i m going in for now; however, the max i m getting right now is 256 MB one; after sorting out all songs, i wud hv to get that transferred to cd’s and then re-fill the pen-drive. That’ s the best to do. I had forgotten to mention that i hv to complete this in Nepal, and getting many advanced stuff here is a pain.

VICKY Thank u thank u :) Hope u will enjoy space even better
Your option is good, but u forget i m in Nepal ;) Asking for that meant a price of some 8K Nepali rupees and ’some 5-6 days’ to procure it LOL . I m opting a difficult, but cheaper, and available option.

INVINCI Thanks a ton. About data, hv found a mid-way option now :) See comments above :)

ZOYA Awww, i said its still in test phase, how can i miss ur name. It will be up soon. BTW, to add to ‘announcement list’ just fill up the two-field form on the sidebar here :)

NAVJOT Naa, dont hv that much time now. Will hv to complete this in Nepal itself. Hv hit upon a mid-way soln as of now. Thanks a ton :)

  9. Anu Says:

hey DJ nice site…. wrt to the songs transfer, use a external HArd drive- thats what i did!!!

  10. Zoya Says:

:) Have filled up the announcement form. Me back after a long time….with the 3rd chapter of my story…please do read and give me your opinion.

  11. Silky Moon Says:

Hey DJ you should have transferred all your song and files and personal stuff as soon as you have deiced to leave Nepal. What is this, you do everything at the last hour.

Anyway the best option was to by an internal Hard drive and transfer all of them.

But hope you did that as you mentioned there in comment box.

And about the horoscope, you know I never read it and even I read it by mistake I never give any attention on it but reading yours yesterdays horoscope, I’m just keeping smiling :) .

  12. neetie Says:

  13. mehak Says:

  14. Deepak Jeswal Says:

ZOYA Yep, will read the third also ( I read the second, but dont think i commented there) ; and thanks for filling for announcements :)

SILKY MOON LOL , agar pahle kar leta toh DJ na hota na ;) I end up doing so many things at the last moment! Yep even i m smiling at recalling the horoscope. :)   A warm welcome to this site!

NEETIE  Welcome hai ji :) Well I hope u all readers also enjoy it here :)

MEHAK  Bahut bahut welcome! I know, i m still struggling with some last minute stuff; plus i m scared i will awfully exceed the airline’s weight limit.

Yep shud hv bought that only, but i just didnt hv time at all to go to China Town here! Just managed to buy two USB pen-drives, and ussi se kaam chalaliya (captured data on it, and then transferred it onto CD’s at cybercafe:) )

  15. Jay Says:

Nice n cool look Deepak. All the best!!

  16. Prasad Says:

hey DJ… leaving my footprints in ur new space :)
